Part of feeling great is looking your best. As we age, our appearance changes, but thanks to modern medicine, there are ways to help you keep a youthful glow much longer. Botox is one of the world's top treatments for reducing the appearance of wrinkles, but some myths surround this popular treatment, causing people to shy away from trying it. We've performed Botox treatments on many patients over the years, so we understand your concerns. This list will dispel several myths about Botox so you can make an informed decision about whether this anti-aging treatment is right for you.

Botox is addictive

With the right Botox treatment, your wrinkles will fade into the background, making you look younger and more vibrant. Because people feel better about themselves after a Botox treatment that makes them look youthful, they usually opt to have treatments often, if not regularly. However, this doesn't mean that Botox is addictive in the way that some street and prescription drugs are addictive.

You may want to get another Botox injection when you notice the effects of your previous treatment starting to wear off, but there are no addictive substances used in a Botox injection. You won't have negative side effects if you decide to stop receiving Botox treatments.

Botox is permanent

The anti-aging effects of Botox treatments aren't permanent. In fact, your wrinkles and fine lines will start to reappear slowly after around three to six months. How long the effects of Botox last depends on a variety of factors, including how well the treatment was performed, how long since the last Botox treatment, how many units were used, and how well the patient takes to this type of injection. Your results won't be the same as your neighbors because your bodies and genetic makeups are different.

Botox freezes your expression

Unfortunately, if you choose the wrong practitioner, your Botox treatment could result in a frozen or expressionless look. The best way to avoid this is to choose an experienced and professional doctor from the biostation. If you choose an unskilled practitioner, you could end up with the wrong dosage or a bad injection. These are what cause patients to get an unnatural appearance after a Botox treatment. The right doctor will help you look younger and give you a natural, vibrant appearance.

Botox makes wrinkles worse

As the effects of Botox begin to fade, your wrinkles and fine lines reappear. However, Botox doesn't make your wrinkles more pronounced when it wears off. You may feel as though your skin looks older, but it's likely only because you've grown accustomed to your more youthful appearance. Getting regular Botox injections could actually help reduce deep wrinkles from forming because the muscles in your face are relaxed.

Botox is only for women

There's a stereotype that leads us to believe that women are more concerned with their appearance than men, which would have us think that Botox is a treatment meant just for females. This is far from true. In fact, the number of men getting Botox injections is on the rise. Men do require more units of Botox than women because they have more muscles in their faces. However, men can benefit from the anti-aging effects of Botox because they'll feel better about how they look, giving them confidence.

Botox is only for improving the appearance

Botox treatments are exceptional at reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, but it has other uses that make it an important drug. Doctors use Botox injections to treat muscle spasms, especially in the face, neck, and eyes. It can also help with migraines, providing relief for those who suffer from painful headaches. Some doctors use Botox to treat bladder dysfunction because of its ability to relax muscles. For anti-aging, Botox has been in use since 2002, but the FDA first approved Botox in December 1989, when it was used to treat strabismus, hemifacial spasms, and blepharospasm.

Botox is painful

Botox is a minimally invasive, nonsurgical procedure that takes between 10 and 30 minutes to complete. We'll inject Botox into your muscles where you have crow's feet, frown lines, or other problem areas. Our skilled practitioners know how to make the procedure as painless as possible, and most clients experience only slight discomfort during their treatment. Don't feel intimidated by the needles, as we use a small gauge for the most comfort and least visibility after the procedure. If you're concerned about pain, numbing is an option for all our clients. We let you make the choice.

Botox is dangerous

Botulinum toxin A is what constitutes Botox, and while botulinum toxin is extremely dangerous due to its poisonous nature, it's safe and effective when used in limited doses as an injection for anti-aging and muscle relaxation purposes. Botox was approved for wrinkle treatment by the FDA in 2002, and since then, millions of doses have been given to patients around the globe. Many patients continue to regularly receive Botox treatments as part of their skincare routine because it can help reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles and slow their formation.

Botox works immediately

Although our patients should notice results from their Botox treatment within 24 to 48 hours, the full effects of Botox won't be visible for up to 14 days. Just as your wrinkles will gradually reappear over time, Botox takes time to be fully effective and truly make you look your best. Be patient as you wait for the results to happen and consult your doctor if you have any questions or concerns.
