how does Kybella^® work?

Kybella is a deoxycholic acid based formula, a molecule found in the body that helps in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. After just one session, patients start to notice a visible reduction of fullness beneath the chin area and a more defined jawline. Once Kybella dissolves the fat cells, these cells are no longer able to store or accumulate fat, so no additional treatments are necessary once you achieve your desired results.

what to expect with Kybella^®

Your aesthetics expert will meet with you to assess your chin profile and discuss your specific goals. They will create a customized treatment plan designed for you and your level of submental fullness.

• Each treatment session will consist of several small injections underneath your chin.
• The number of treatments required will depend on the amount of submental fat you have and your desired results.
• Your aesthetics expert will apply a topical lidocaine numbing solution if needed, so the treatment is very comfortable.
• After receiving their first round of Kybella injections, patients sometimes have tenderness and swelling, which usually goes away 1-2 days after treatment. These typically are the most noticeable after the first session.
• Kybella sessions are spaced 1 month apart, and you may receive up to 6 treatments. However, most of our patients experience a noticeable difference and are extremely satisfied after 2 to 4 Kybella treatments. In clinical studies on Kybella, 59% of patients received the full 6 treatments.
• Since Kybella destroys the fat cells under your chin, the results are permanent. This means that as soon as your aesthetics goals have been reached, you do not need further treatment.

Kybella is an FDA approved cosmetic injection indicated for improvement in the appearance of fullness associated with submental fat below the chin. Kybella destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness and contouring under the chin. Our practitioner will describe the nature and timing of expected results after your Kybella treatment. Your results will not be immediate and additional treatments may be required. At the time of injection and for several days following the injections you should expect to swell. Not all submental fullness will respond to Kybella. Our practitioner will recommend the appropriate number of treatments sessions during your complimentary consultation. Expected treatment time is 45-60 minutes per treatment. To achieve full results, be sure to keep any follow-up appointments in your treatment series.

Pre-treatment

1. You should tell your provider if you take any blood thinners or aspirin or have a history of any issues with Lidocaine.
2. Blood thinners, including alcohol, increase chances and severity of bruising, so it’s recommended to avoid them for at least 24 hours before treatment. If you are particularly prone to bruising, it may be wise to wait a couple of days to give your skin more time heal before drinking.
3. We recommend scheduling this treatment at least 2 weeks before any major professional or social commitment.

Post-treatment

1. Bruising and swelling is normal and to be expected. If bruising is visible you can start taking oral Arnica and apply topical Arnica cream to areas that are discolored.
2. Ice packs may be used to the treated area during the first 12 hours. Ice for 15 minutes every hour.
3. Do not massage the injection site.
4. If you are able to tolerate Ibuprofen 200mg three times daily beginning the day of your treatment and for the following four days.
5. Avoid heavy exercise and activity the day of treatment. Resume regular exercise or activity 48-72 hours after treatment.
6. Notify the biostation if any significant swelling, bleeding, difficulty swallowing or smiling, skin discoloration or fever occurs.
