In 40 years of practicing medicine, I've found that talking about erectile dysfunction (ED) can be quite challenging for most men. Even though they may be open to discussing other health problems in their lives, often men dealing with this frustrating issue simply aren't willing or ready to seek treatment.

While we understand that the topic can seem difficult to talk about at first, know that it absolutely shouldn't be. ED is a lot more common that you'd think. When you open up about your concerns and seek treatment, you'll likely be able to go back to the rewarding sexual activity you enjoyed when you were younger - often immediately. It's important to learn more about the problem and understand that it's not something you have to live with because you're getting older. And in fact, treating ED could in fact help save your life. At its root, ED is a blood flow issue, and often a warning sign of more serious health problems to come.

At the biostation, there's more to treating ED than just prescribing a little blue pill. I designed our individualized erectile dysfunction treatment program to help men with all types of issues and symptoms. We have numerous customizable therapies to help you, and we will work with you to design a protocol that best fits your lifestyle.

Evaluating Your Needs

One of the biggest problems with ED treatment in the past was the fact that every guy with an issue was treated the same way. It seems like any man over the age of 40 was given a prescription and a push out the door.

That's not the best way to deal with ED. Every man suffering from it, whether it's a chronic problem or one that only occurs once in awhile, is different. That's why we individually evaluate each patient to help him find the exact right treatment that will best address his needs. The biostation has multiple treatment options for men with ED, but before we can treat the problem, we need to figure out what's causing it in the first place.

Improving Blood Flow

When you're talking about erections, it all starts with proper blood flow. Without that, you can't achieve or maintain an erection that's as firm or efficient as you'd like. Many men with blood flow issues also have difficulty maintaining an erection for five to 10 minutes, let alone enough time for satisfying sex with a partner.

One of the ways we improve blood flow in men with ED is with an injectable therapy called ICI that's been around since the early 80's. You take a tiny needle, also known as an insulin needle, and inject the penis with a safe, non-systemic medication. Since this medicine does not go through your system, there is no risk and no need to restrict food, alcohol or other medications.

With ICI, you'll be able to control your erection for 30, 60 or 90 minutes. It's convenient, works immediately and again, completely safe.

To see if this treatment is right for you, one of our experienced medical technicians will give you an in depth personal evaluation including our advanced bloodwork, physical examination and doppler test. After that, we will work closely with you to customize the best possible treatment plan.

Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment

Regular injections often work to help men with ED, but some need a supplemental form of regenerative therapy to achieve and maintain erections like they used to have. Platelet rich plasma therapy (PRP) uses your own platelets to help achieve maximum blood flow.

During the process, a blood sample is collected and spun in a centrifuge, and then your powerful platelets are injected back into the penis to increase blood flow, enhance sensitivity and improve pleasure. PRP therapy can also boost sexual stamina and help men achieve a more satisfying sexual experience with a partner.

The best part for many men is that PRP therapy is quick and begins to work almost immediately, and the results improve as your own tissues and blood vessels begin to regenerate. PRP therapy has helped many men regain the ability to have enjoyable sex.

Bioidentical Hormone Therapy

Most men think that decreased sexual performance is just the name of the game when they get older. This lack of sexual power isn't about age though – it's about reduced testosterone levels in the body.

As you age, your body produces less testosterone in general. To combat that, you may want to consider bioidentical hormone therapy to replace some of the testosterone that you lose naturally.

Men with low testosterone levels may not realize that they have less of this all-important hormone than other men. While low testosterone can lead to decreased sexual function and ED, there's also a correlation between lowT and problems like depression, anxiety, irritability, anger, weight gain and a loss of muscle mass.
